My slow acknowledgement that I’m really a writer
Yesterday I was able to share the link to pre-order my debut novel, The Myth Maker. I knew it was coming. I’ve gone through all of the steps – writing the book, pitching the book, landing an agent, making some changes, surviving life, hearing (finally!) from a publisher saying they want it, editing with my publisher, approving a cover, writing the dedication and acknowledgements…I’ve done all of that. But for whatever reason there’s part of my brain that has told me not to get too excited yet, and I don’t know why. I even waited weeks (like, 6) to cash my advance check! Even though I’m usually more level-headed, I was worried they’d ask for it back. Could be a future visit with my therapist, who knows!
It all got real for me two nights ago in the silliest way. My publisher, Crooked Lane, sent the pre-order link for my distributor, Penguin Random House, with links to different sites to do the pre-orders. I already knew it had been updated on Amazon because a random podcaster emailed me a few weeks ago, but the cover had been missing until very recently. I clicked on the other button and there it was, my book cover and name at Barnes & Noble. I closed the page, went back to their site and typed just my name in the search bar and – BOOM! – there I was. Me. My name listed amongst real authors on the website of a major book seller. All of the above finally sunk in and I cried dumb, silly, happy tears in front of my husband. It’s all real!
For the next few weeks I’m going to be posting more about the process of getting The Myth Maker into people’s hands. It’s going to be a full history, going way back to my younger days of elementary school kid poetry, to my first attempt at a novel in 8th grade, to where I am now with two complete novels written and one coming to bookstores near you in July! I’ll also dive into what to expect from The Myth Maker and introduce you to my MC(writer speak for main character) – Detective Cassidy Cantwell. I can’t wait to share more of my journey to being a real author who cries over B&N pages with her name on them.
And! Because I’m not just talking about being a writer, I’m going to post that magical link and say Hey! Buy my book, I think you’ll like it! Hit the big red Order Now below to access the pre-order options. And, in a new turn in the publishing world, you can pre-order in 3 formats: Hardcover, paperback, and eBook. No more waiting if you prefer the paperbacks!
